Koh Phangan
Koh Phangan is an island in the Gulf of Thailand where fishing and farming is important to its economy. Its name derives from a word meaning "sand bar" since it has many sand bars offshore. Legends says that the island formed on top of quartz crystals and many believe it is a place for spiritual transformation. Others know this island for its Full Moon and Half-Moon parties, dance music festivals held monthly on the beach during the full moon and half-moon. However the island is much more relaxing and tranquil during other parts of the month for visitors looking for a more relaxing experience.
Mae Haad is a white sand beach on the island where two different currents meet, showing two different shades of water. The two currents are seperated by a narrow sandbank and at low tide visitors can walk across it to Koh Ma Island. The island is a great place to snorkel.
Than Sadet Koh Phangan National Park makes up more than one third of the island and features untouched rainforest, waterfalls, mountains, and deserted coves as well as ancient temples, emphasizing its spiritual environment. One of the most popular attractions is the Phaeng Waterfall.
